Meet Dr. Joe T. Southerland

Originally from Georgia, Dr. Southerland moved to Texas in 1999 to open his practice in Arlington. He and his wife Kimberly have two children, Jake and Kylie. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Podiatry Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated  to education in the profession.  He served as the chief editor of the 4th edition of McGlamry’s Comprehensive Textbook of Foot and Ankle Surgery which was released in September of 2012.  He lectures regularly throughout the United States and abroad.  He was invited to Spain to help teach surgical technique in August, 2017.  

In addition to his involvement with podiatric education, he has been involved with Healing the Children, Inc medical missions to the Central American countries of Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.

 

Dr. Southerland has also been involved with podiatric surgery in Australia since his second year in residency in 1993.  He has been there numerous times to teach surgical techniques of the foot and ankle.  He has taught podiatry students at the University of Western Australia and in August of 2012, he was made an honorary Fellow of the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons.
